Forty years after the release of the legendary album Mania by Nikos Xydakis —written for Giorgos Panousopoulos’ film of the same title—an ecstatic world of paganism, untamed natural and animal forces rises once more, this time on Lemnos, exploring the absurdity of our reality as something paradoxically liberating and “normal.”
The distinguished composer Nikos Xydakis joins forces with three remarkable
young avant-garde artists—guitarist and performer Nikos Antonopoulos, accordionist Konstantinos Zigkeridis and sculptor Eva Papamargariti, reviving
and reimagining the pioneering essence of Mania.
Otherworldly “mechanical” sculptures, projections, and exotic plastic forms flood the
interwar garden of the old stone school, with its tall palm trees, enveloping this
unexpected convergence of music, poetry, and visual art.
“Lemnos brings to mind Imbros and Tenedos. We live close to glory, for a moment, in
Soumitzou and in Don’t Be Afraid. From Erotic to Sleeping Beauty, and then back
again to the beginning of the songs—back to Sappho—and suddenly the hour has
flown. The songs are strange little stories. Their story is their sensitivity. Their music
is their raft. They converge on this journey as if etched onto water—one song spilling
like a wave into the next,”notes the composer.
